Dedra Hines, 28, is a Master Stylist from Durham, NC. Dedra is a graduate of North Carolina Central University where she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with a concentration in Finance in 2002 and Masters of Information Science in 2008. She is a great promoter of education where her motto is “Education is the tool you need to succeed”. She considers herself an artist in every aspect of the beauty industry and mainly focuses on healthy hair. A 2004 Dudley Beauty College graduate, and with several certificates in cutting and coloring, Dedra has over 11 years of experience in hair designing and styling. She has attended the Bronner Bros International Hair Show every year since 2003 taking business and skill classes. Obtaining the knowledge and proficiency from the classes allowed Dedra to satisfy any and every clients. She looks at her clients and treats them as “Local Celebrities”. Ranking one of the Top Wedding Stylist and Make-up artists in Durham, Dedra dedicates a lot of her time in her Amaka’s International Hair Salon. Amaka’s International opened in November 2006 with a firm belief in enhancing the beauty of “everyday” women while allowing each client a style which meet her personal needs bringing forth her inner beauty.

Although Dedra did not have to go far to come up with a salon name, she still put thought into Amaka’s International. Amaka is derived from Africa and is Dedra’s middle name given to her by a friend of her mother. In Nigeria, the name was given to a female child by the Ibo ethnic group. Used alone, Amaka means good, pretty, or beautiful girl. Typically, Amaka is short for names like Nneamaka, meaning mother is good/beautiful or Uzoamaka, meaning good way.  Keeping in mind the meaning of her middle name, Dedra thought it would be a perfect fit for the salon name because if you look good, you’ll feel good, and Amaka is good.
