Commission Setup

Commission Setup is accomplished by clicking More until you see the Maintenance choice.  Click Commission followed by Click Service/Retail Commission and select the employee to setup.

If you pay a flat rate percentage for commission for both service and retail, answer Yes to the first question and you can simply type in the service rate and retail commission rate without entering the table information below. For example, to enter 50% Service commission you would type 50.

To help you understand how a commission levels should be setup follow the example below.

Example

Employee is supposed to receive 40% commission on sales under $1000.00 and 50% commission if their total sales exceed $1000.00.  The employee also receives 10% commission on retail.  The employee receives commission on the whole amount.

To Setup this example only two lines of the table need to be filled out.

                    Service                                                                    Retail

Low High Rate Low High Rate
0.00 1000.00 40% 0.00 99999.00 10%
1000.01 99999.00 50% 0.00 0.00 0.00

To finish the example, we will use numbers to illustrate the pay scale.  Let's say the employee performed service sales of $1200.00 and retail sales of $150.00.  The total employee pay would be 50% of $1200.00 or $600.00 plus 10% of $150.00 or $15.00 for a total pay of $615.00

Piecewise

Now, let's assume the employee is paid Piecewise with the same service and retail sales as above.  The calculation would involve two steps.  First the employee would receive 40% of the first $1000.00 or $400.00 and 50% of the balance over which is 50% of $200 or $100.  Total service commission is $500.00 instead of $600.00 in the previous example.  The retail calculation is the same as above 10% of $150.00 or $15.00.  As you can see from the example piecewise commission benefits the employer not the employee.  The total pay for piecewise is $515.00 versus $615.00 which is $100.00 change.

Note:

If the employee receives a flat rate for all services, only the first line needs to be completed with 0.00 in the low and 99999.00 in the high and the rate on the last line.

Advanced

The Advanced button allows the Commission to be calculated between multiple pay types. For example, you can pay employees based upon the greater amount of either Service, Hourly or Salary.  Piecewise commission is selected from the Advanced button.
